GrowRight — integrated growing technology
An example of building an entire product as a system: hardware, firmware, mechanical design, and a useful interface.
A growing environment needs consistency.
Hydroponics benefits from careful monitoring and repeatable nutrient delivery. GrowRight grew from an interest in making those routines more controlled, observable, and less dependent on manual intervention. The project connects a biological need to engineering choices.
From circuit design to physical form.
The original project materials show a purpose-built computer, custom circuit boards, printed enclosures, modular lighting components, and peristaltic pumps. These pieces were designed to work together rather than assembled as unrelated gadgets.
- Electronics and PCB development for device integration.
- 3D modeling and fabrication of housings and mechanical components.
- Pump and lighting integration as part of a larger control system.
Make the system understandable.
Firmware and a graphical interface connect sensors and actuators with the person running the system. In a well-designed control system, reliability and clear feedback matter as much as functionality.
Product development is multidisciplinary.
GrowRight brings together software, electronics, fabrication, and plant science. It remains the clearest introduction to my approach: identify a practical need, prototype the subsystems, and iterate toward a coherent whole.
